Creating with clay and colours
8th – 9th July 2010

Children and youngsters play their own valuable role in the Ceramic and Traditional Dishes of Athienou Festival which is held by the Municipality of Athienou in cooperation with the Cyprus Cultural Association “Anatropi”. In the mornings of Thursday 8th July and Friday 9th July, guided by the Greek ceramic artists Tasos Patiniotis and Takis Papazafeiropoulos, the children and the youngsters are transformed into excellent ceramic artists. After painting their works, which they have created during the children’s event, using earthly colours, they help in the construction of the two furnaces in which the ceramics are burned. These creative activities using clay, which take place in the outdoor areas of the Kallinikeio Municipal Hall, constitute a unique experience for the children.

International Museum Day - 18th May
15th – 16th May 2010

At the weekend 15th and 16th of May, our Museum, similarly to thousands of other Museums throughout the world, celebrates the International Museum Day. This day was established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) aiming to elevate their role in social development. Our Museum, inspired by this year’s theme, “Museums and Social Harmony”, organises a programme called “Painting for the World’s Cultures”. Children from the age of 5 up to the age of 13 years old travel virtually to the continents using a globe, dance an African dance, eat an American burger, feed the kangaroos and use pencils and paper to draw the joy, understanding, respect, peace and love among the cultures of the world.

Our first collage

During the Easter Holidays, 62 children choose to spend a few creative hours at the Museum participating in the programme “Our first collage”. Guided by grandma Kali, the brave man Demetros and other heroes, the children listen closely to stories while discovering museum objects hidden in a collage. Each team creates its own magnificent collage.
